Animals+BB Guns=Disaster

For those of you who are Country people, you have probably heard of someone at one point in time "pinging" animals with BB Guns to get them to leave their yard. People consider this ok because "it doesn't hurt the animal, it just stings a little." But this is not always true. I'm going to give you 4 stories to prove my point.

Story #1.

A man we know that owns a large farm down the road from us had a dog, and when my Mom asked how she was one day, the man informed us she had gotten sick and died (she was old). They started talking about her, and he said that when they took her to the vet to be checked out, the vet had to take X-rays, and they found an unexpected surprise. Their dog had 14 BB Gun pellets in her body. Someone had been shooting her, probably to get her out of their yard.

Story #2.

Relative of my friend had a dog who was shot by the neighbor with a BB Gun and it entered his chest and he died a slow death after the vet said there was nothing they could do for him.

Story #3.

Just read an article online about a family who went outside to find their little dog had been shot with a BB Gun in their front yard and after being rushed to the vet, he died.

Story #4.

A girl my Mom knew was shot in the thigh by her brother's BB Gun and the bead went into her skin and she had to get it removed.

So, are you still convinced BB Guns are harmless?

Even though these guns don't shoot real bullets, they are still guns, and still pose a danger. They are meant for shooting inanimate objects.  Do they always cause damage like I just described? I'd guess not, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Never shoot anyone with a BB Gun and don't shoot neighborhood pets or strays with them. Its not kind and is a potential danger.
